Thanks
to our partnership with Better World Books, we can also accept hardcover nonfiction. (Fiction
does not sell well online.)
Better World Books is
an online bookseller that produces “social capital.”
A percentage of the profits made on books sold on our behalf are
returned to PBP to fund our postage costs. Because the number of prisoners we
can help is limited only our ability to pay the postage to mail
the books. Every $3 we raise lets us help another prisoner.

Books We Cannot Use
Because of limited storage space and increasingly strict prison
regulations, we cannot accept the following types of books. To make
sure we can accept your donation, we strongly encourage you to email
or call us before bringing or mailing your books to Quincy.
- Encyclopedias and similar hard-cover book sets
- Legal journals (legal dictionaries and consumer-level
criminal law material is welcome)
- Magazines (except for magazines that depict a trade such as "This Old House")
- Academic journals
- Textbooks printed before 2000
- Books printed before 1970
- Books with writing/notes in the margins (light highlighting is OK)
- Books with spiral or comb bindings (metal or plastic)
- Books that have stickers that cannot be removed
- Books in poor condition (missing pages, torn/missing covers, etc.)
Where To Bring Donations
Book donations can be dropped
off at the PBP office in the basement of the United First Parish Church
in Quincy Center during our normal volunteer hours. Because
of space limitations, please contact us if you are bringing more than
six boxes (617-423-3298 or info@prisonbookprogram.org).
