Prison Book Program Partners With Better World Books |
The Prison Book Program is pleased to be partnered with Better World Books. Founded in the spirit of social entrepreneurship, this organization collects used and surplus books and either sells them online or distributes them to literacy programs around the country and around the world. Better World Books provides an easy way for people and companies to get rid of unwanted books and know that they will end up in the hands of people who need them or provide funding to struggling literacy programs. People buying books online now have a socially conscious alternative! Better World Books is helping Prison Book in several ways:
The goal of Better World Books is to produce "social capital" in the form of books and funding for non-profits. Although structured as a for-profit company, they return a portion of their profits to their literacy partners including the Prison Book Program. Better World Books has had a tremendously successful relationship with Books for Africa and Room to Read - organizations that distribute books to school libraries in Africa and around the world. Because of our partnership with Better World Books, we can now accept most book donations and can even arrange pickups of large donations. We still accept smaller donations at our location in Quincy Center during our regular volunteer hours. Because of space limitations, please contact us before bringing more than six cartons of books.
