Work Involved
Do you want to directly touch the lives of prisoners around the country? We rely solely on volunteers to process requests and do other work required to keep the program running.
Some of the tasks volunteers can expect to help with include:
Selecting Books for Prisoners ("Picking")
- Read letters from prisoners who request books
- Select books suitable to the request from our book room
Preparing Book Packages for Mailing ("Packing")
- Verify the book selections
- Package the book selections
- Address the packages to the prisoners
Sorting and Shelving Books
- Sort and log incoming book donations
- Scan books (that we cannot use) for sale online
- Stock the bookroom shelves
Processing Mail
- Open, read, and sort mail
- Label book requests with prison-imposed restrictions
Miscellaneous Tasks
- Online verification of prisoner locations
- Translating requests
- Special projects
